Halloween is only a few days away. That means lots of candy for the kids along with sugar rushes and candy crashes left for the parents to deal with. That said, it is Halloween, the one time of year our kids are supposed to eat way more candy than they ever should. Here are some quick tips on how to find balance with this year’s candy consumption:
- Decide ahead of time what is an acceptable amount of candy for your children to ingest on Halloween this year and stick to your guns.
- Make sure to discuss these rules with your kids before you all head out the door.
- Whether your threshold is three, five or ten crunchy, gooey, sticky, sugary treats, putting it out there ahead of time will avoid meltdowns while trick-or-treating.
- Keep in mind that it is Halloween and a few more treats than usual is okay, especially since this year, the holiday falls on a Saturday.
- Since young kids will be trick-or-treating alongside you, you can easily keep an eye on what is going in their mouth and how often.
- To avoid your little one from sneaking a few sweet treats while asking for candy on the streets, hold their candy bag so you gain control of the tasty goods. (Oh and don’t let your kids see you stealing from their candy bag…doesn’t bode well for your cause).
- If your child keeps asking, “Just one more…please…it’s Halloween”, and you give in, you will be hearing that popular phrase all night long.
- Remember to inspect your child’s candy to before they start digging in.
It is definitely possible for your kids to enjoy the fruits of their labor this Halloween while avoiding a trip to the dentist! Oh and if my kids ring your bell, remember to throw in an extra treat for me!
TOGETHER WE CAN MASTER MOTHERHOOD…and Halloween!
